Mines the fMRI  experiments performed  on people reading for leisure and then for study, finding that blood flows to regions of higher level, complex cognition when reading.
Notes that reading critically, such as studying for a class, provides greater stimulation and involves more areas of the brain, employing complex re in a unique way. Other analytical activities we perform fail to fire up the regions in the same way. Scientists also noted that careful reading changed neural pathways in the brain.
