Near 6:00 in the evening, dark thick clouds blocked the light over Rexburg, Idaho, as vicious storms of wind, hail, and massive rain loomed. Houses hit the hardest were in the valley areas and homes with basements.
Even homes with slightly lowered elevation were inundated with silt and muddy water. Emergency services gave warning of flash flooding hours after the damage had been incurred.
Mass evacuations to the nearby campus of Brigham Young University - Idaho, helped rescue efforts, but nothing could hold back muddy, gushing waters penetrating an estimated hundreds of homes.
Time will tell the financial damage incurred, but at this point the community is coming to the rescue in unprecedented numbers, and the people are safe, though salvation efforts will continue through the night and the immediate future.
There is no telling how long citizens will remain in refuge on the BYU - I campus.
