Active peace and kindness
The solution to a peaceful and kind world does not lie in government, law, or religion. In fact, they tend to steer us in the wrong direction. Both government and religion call for justice and punishment more than goodness.
I would like to believe that we have evolved to a new era culturally, and we are on the brink of something marvelous. The secret lies in each individual choosing to actively spread peace and kindness. Believing in these values is not enough because it extends no farther than one person.
Martin Luther King, Jr. acted upon the values he held, and he respected Mahatma Gandhi for doing the same: "If humanity is to progress, Gandhi is inescapable. He lived, thought, acted and inspired by the vision of humanity evolving toward a world of peace and harmony." The key words are lived, thought, acted, and inspired. In a world full of hatred and violence, passive altruism is a crime.
