How to Make Your Blogging Dreams Come True
“ONE DAY I’ll be a full time blogger!” ‘V’ – my wife – must have heard that statement 100 or more times in 2003-2004. It would usually be accompanied by a spread sheet and/or chart in which I showed her how the earnings from my blog had grown from $9 per month to $11 per month and me excitedly talking about how if things kept growing like that I’d be full time…. in 9 years time.
Notes that dreaming of the future is important and inspiring, but the dreams are futile if you never take action. Many become frozen within their dreams, failing to strike forth with action.
Most bloggers who want to become pros are overcome by everything that must be done to get there. They feel like "There is too much to do," and "I want to do it perfectly." Both of these are based in fear, causing inaction. You never start because you are afraid.
Initiate action by choosing one thing to establish momentum. This creates inertia, pushing you past your fears. Make the small task, one that is fairly easy to accomplish. The success you feel after completing it will fuel your transition to a larger task.
Take care in choosing the task to make sure that it will actually move you toward your end goal. Sometimes bloggers focus on small tasks that seem important, but amount to distractions from the larger goal. Don't worry about doing it perfectly, just get it done. If you focus on perfection, you might not act, so just do your best. You will learn, grow, and perfect along the way.
The author uses examples from his own experience to show how getting started is the main obstacle with something like publishing a blog or an ebook.
