Imagination is the key to innovation
Humans tend to devalue the power of imagination to change human society because we do not fully understand its power.
Imagination enables the human animal to envision and feel the power of change. Empathy powers the ability to experience the thoughts and feelings of other people. Combined, imagination and empathy bestow social power.
You can assess reality, analyze it intellectually, and envision societal change. You are capable of designing a plan to make change and innovation in reality.
You may see reality as permanent and unchanging, but the truth is that you are infinitely powerful. Your vision can imagine a different world and alter reality.
Dr. Seuss says that you are powerful because of imagination and the ability to laugh at reality. This is subversive, meaning that it questions and undermines authority and the status quo.
Your imagination is necessary for life change.
John Lennon accomplishes this by envisioning a world far different than reality. He pokes at the status quo, and suggests that we imagine a world without god, country, and violence.
Lennon's power lies in his imagining another world, and he asks that you share his vision. Lennon looks through the wrong end of the telescope, and engages the world in a new objective.
A peaceful, atheistic vision of freedom.
Imagination is the core of civilization because, unlike other animals, we can empathize with the thoughts and feelings of others through imagination. We can spread ideas this way.
Both Lennon and Seuss believe in the power of the human mind to engage and persuade others on a massive scale.
I do to, and while you may not embrace the vision of either, you can imagine, create, and promote one of your own.
And, you can make change.
